               Singular nouns refer to “only one”

                  Plural nouns refer to “more than one”

 

                   Singular nouns can be changed to plural nouns

                   by adding  “s” or “es”

                  Singular                                     Plural

                  boy                                                boys

                  car                                                cars

 

                 Words that end with  ss, ch, sh and x are pluralized by adding ‘es’

                 Singular                                               Plural

                 dress                                             dresses

                 watch                                           watches

                 brush                                            brushes

                 box                                                 boxes

 

                Pluralizing nouns that end with  Y

                If a vowel ( a, e , i ,o or  u)  is before the y then add s

                key — keys

                If a consonant is before the y, change the y to i and add es

                baby — babies

               city — cities

                puppy—puppies

                lady— ladies

               Pluralizing “f” or “fe” ending words

 

              Pluralizing  nouns that end with “f” and “fe”

              When a noun ends with  or  fe  the  or  fe  is  changed to v and es is

              added to make it more than one.

 

               shelf—shelves

               knife—knives

 

              Pluralizing nouns that end with O

              Nouns that end with o are pluralized by adding es

             mango—mangoes

             tomato—tomatoes
