   PRESENT & PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE

 

 

 

               The present continuous tense is used to show

                   that an action is happening right now or in the

                   future.

                   Present Continuous tense verbs are formed

                   by adding ing to the main verb.

 

                   The helping verbs used with the present continuous tense

                   are: am, is, are.

                  am, are or is are used as helping verbs.

 

                  She is walking home.

                   is (helping verb)

                  walking (main verb + ing)

 

                 The past continuous tense is used to show an past action that

                 is in progress. It is also used to show actions in  progress that

                 have been interrupted.

                 Past Continuous tense verbs are formed by adding ing to the

                 main verb.

                 was or were is used as a helping verb.

 

                We were playing our guitars last night. (action in progress in the past)

               She was talking to me, when the phone rang (interruption)
